THE WIZARDING WORLD OF YES HOMO A.K.A. THE BOBO BLOGSQUAD INTERN ROLL CALL #1

Posted by Elli S on

Dear Queers,

Well hey there. I’m not quite sure how to introduce myself here. I’m a college freshman majoring in American Sign Language with a penchant for outer space, Harry Potter, and inter-sectional feminism.

I know. I’m 18. Practically a baby, one of those World Ruining Millennials. And a lesbian?! It’s okay. We’ll get through this together.

So here’s the thing. I know little to nothing about clothing, or t-shirts, or anything of that nature. I wear a lot of clothing that benefits charities and/or things I can steal from my sister’s closet while she’s away at college.

I suppose I will begin with a story that I just experienced not one week ago. I spent the last week at GeekyCon, a Harry Potter convention in Orlando, Florida. The first night consisted of my entire geeky friend group getting to spend the evening in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, once everyone had left (so we got to be there from 10pm-2am with no one but other GeekyCon attendees. I don’t know how to explain that to non-nerds but it’s…a big deal).

Around the park, I wore my purple Yes Homo t-shirt that I had purchased from none other than this fantastic website. And the number of compliments I received on it was outrageous. Every time I turned a corner, there was someone new wanting to tell me how much they liked my shirt. It felt a little like a ton of people coming out to me all at once. Some ran up and hugged me and yelled, others side-eyed me and whispered like they weren’t sure they wanted me to know.

It reminds me of when I first began coming out (which is a story for another day). But I’ll rest my case with this: queer people are everywhere. They are your store clerks, your friends, your family, that random girl you see at the Wizarding World wearing a Yes Homo shirt.

So it’s nice to meet you all. I will be your queer mom / cousin / weird little sister / daughter you never had, all you need to do is ask. If you want me to write about something in particular, feel free to tweet me! I’m really psyched to put this whole thing together with Tara, Liz and Nik. See you around!
